Coconut water, is from “young coconuts.” It is a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. Consider it “nature’s Gatorade.” It’s the fluid of life, so to speak. In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water – siphoned directly from the nut – to give emergency plasma transfusions to wounded soldiers.
Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas – once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of its organoleptic (sensory properties) and nutritional characteristics, and begins to ferment.
- Coconut water is more nutritious than whole milk – Less fat and NO cholesterol.
- Coconut water is better than processed baby milk – it contains lauric acid, which is present in human mother’s milk.
- Coconut water is naturally sterile – Water permeates through the filtering husk.
- Coconut water is a universal donor – It’s identical to human blood plasma.
- Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage – the same level we have in our blood.
- Coconut water has saved lives in 3rd world countries thru Coconut IV.
Coconut water is the very stuff of nature, biologically pure, full of natural sugars, salts, vitamins and minerals to ward off fatigue. Coconut water contains more potassium (at about 294 mg) than most sports drinks (117 mg) and most energy drinks. It is alkalizing to the body.
Coconut water is served in the evenings at Sanoviv‘s tea bar.

Great post! Is coconut water easy to find? Would I have to buy the coconuts young and open them to recieve all the benefits?
Hi, Tammy,
Look for 100% coconut water in the drinks or health food section of your grocery store. There are several brands in either boxes or cans. Best is fresh, but we understand that they are not always available. Also, So Delicious has refrigerated coconut milk (cream) by the carton. We strongly recommend you use a refrigerated brand rather than coconut milk/cream in a can.
We love coconut water and milk! Dairy allergies led us to try coconut milk, which we introduced to our daughter when she turned one. And coconut water is the only “juice” we let her drink. It’s wonderful! Two questions: first, the boxes say to consume the coconut water within 2 days. Does it spoil beyond 2 days or does it begin to ferment? Should it be discarded? And secondly, Is making yogurt an easy process? I would love to make our own coconut yogurt. Thank you!
I read (somewhere-sorry) that we are able to use the coconuts in the grocery store; use a nail to pucture a hole in the coconut at the 2 dots that end of the fruit and then drink directly. Is that alright? Do we really need to buy it in bottled or packaged form?
Whole coconuts are absolutely the best! Give them a good wash before puncturing.
Great post, specially for Mexico.
Is there any problem on how the coconut is grown? I mean about the fertilizers utilized.
Thank you for the post. it is right to consume the real thing. In the case for coconut water. Nothing can beat the nutrition, the Life Force energy, that fresh-unprocessed coconut water has. That is why we sell only the real thing, 100% Raw coconut water. we are also opening stores and distribution for fresh coconut water, coconut milk, and nut milks. empowering people to build their own business, their own coconut farms, and more. Keep the coconut GMO free. Free from corruption the way nature intended. Our company provides fresh-unprocessed coconut water. We have a process but it is not commercial and the nutrition left in our Noelani Coconut Water has nutrients that commercial brands do not have. The taste is just like fresh from the tree. Theirs is not.
